Meet Dr. Antal
I love a lot of things in life—Jesus, my family, and homesteading, but there is a special place in my heart for edifying the bride of Christ. My experience in college ministry, youth ministry, and now in higher education, has positioned me to serve as a conduit between the theological understanding of apologetics and the practical application of defending one’s faith.
Apologist Jeff Myers says it best when he states that:
“I’m convinced that the new kind of apologist is a person who shepherds students with truth in the context of relationship, challenging them to pass on to others what they have learned." (Jeff Myers, “Shepherd is a Verb: The Role of Relational Mentoring in Communicating Truth”)
This is a shared perspective. When I returned to Liberty University to pursue a second doctorate in Theology and Apologetics, I did so with the purpose of furthering my methodology so that I can shepherd believers back to the biblical discipline of apologetics. When Peter, John, and Jude are beckoning believers to defend, remember (know), and contend for the faith, they are establishing the practice of apologetics (1 Peter 3:15-17, 1 John 5:13-15, 18-21, 2 John 1:8-9, Jude 1:3-5, 17-25). Apologetics is more than just defending why Christ is the Messiah, why God is alive, and the Bible speaks truth, but it is also for the believer to remember why they believe!
Through my seasons of questions, and boy have I had them, God still revealed His love for me. He can handle our doubts, our anger, and our seasons of wandering. Beloved, we are called to persevere in our faith and for our faith. Theologically based and Spirit-filled apologetics is a necessary discipline that all of us are called to develop.
